They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. It would seem that Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince tend to agree, as the two members of garage rock band The Kills release their tribute to iconic sixties outfit, The Velvet Underground.
Days after celebrating their 10th anniversary, The Kills have released new material in the form of their latest single, ‘The Last Goodbye’ from their album Blood Pressures, released last year. The single is B-sided with a cute cover of The Velvet Underground’s ‘Pale Blue Eyes’ and the pair have done a pretty darn good job of it.
The result is a strung-out version of Lou Reed’s 1969 classic, with a bit of characteristic Kills distortion thrown in the mix. The Kills have ramped up the song’s instrumentation a bit, but kept the vocalisation subdued — despite being sung by a girl. The cover is a cute little twist on The Velvet Underground classic hit.
